Anchoring in Compassion in this Time of Crisis

Facilitated by Kathleen Coyne

and S. Mary Dean Pfahler

Each day seems to bring news of a further deepening global crisis. It is easy to feel despair and have no idea how to make a difference. But the small, compassionate actions that we take can change the world. Regular meditation in community is one small, prayerful action that supports us in maintaining connection and anchoring in love.

On the Tuesdays of July, you are welcome to join a cross-border Boundless Compassion online community that meets for contemplative meditation. These 45-minute sessions invite participants to anchor in our hearts as we open to the love that is within us, despite this time of crisis. Each Tuesday session includes excerpts from Joyce Rupp's writings and a short talk about anchoring in compassion from Christian meditation teacher Fr. Laurence Freeman. A 20-minute silent meditation concludes the session. These sessions do not include dialogue but are simply a time for offering silence and stillness in community, witnessing to the unity that is present within and among us.

Boundless Compassion Book Study

Group gatherings enrich the experience of reading Boundless Compassion: Creating a Way of Life by Joyce Rupp, as group members benefit from one another’s insights and share in a common cause. Participants are asked to set aside time to read and reflect on each day’s content. Six weekly gatherings correspond with the six themes in the book: Compassion as a Way of Life, Welcoming Ourselves, The River of Suffering, From Hostility to Hospitality, A Thousand Unbreakable Links, and Becoming a Compassionate Presence. At weekly gatherings, group members discuss the Day 7 questions for each theme.
